Do I Need To Be Afraid?!

Zoard is 3 years old now and a few weeks ago, he started experimenting in a whole new way.

He is not a sous chef anymore, he does not want to “just watch” the events.

He bakes and he makes preparations to bake. Sometimes on his own…

This recipe is called Lovizilo. It has a whole bag of rice in it, oat flour, powdered paprika (the Hungarian touch to it, I guess), peanut butter, grapes etc.

I tried telling him later on, that perhaps it is best if we do the baking together.

This morning, he told me that he has a little blog which does not have a Look Book but it does have recipes like the one he would like to bake next. It has brown berries and zucchini in it.

I can proudly say, that the zucchini cake turned out great. We put kefir in it and one piece of date as can be seen on this shot.

If you look closer, you will also see that Zoard chopped off his hair today and that was a shock for me.

I am really supportive of his crazy scientist behavior as much as possible but I just do not know what will come next.

Nevertheless, he is great!

Assya is 1 month old

I will give you a quick update with lovely pictures. That is my deal. Deal?!

Assya weighs 5 kg-s.

She is a great partner in breastfeeding though we have our challenges. You would like to know what?! I am leaking, squirting… making her choke on my milk. I read about this so now I am surrounded with paper towels that Zoard helps me fold. I stop the feeding when the squirting starts… Nevertheless, Assya has to be changed many times because I make her clothes wet with my milk and she swallows a lot of air and started to recently spit up. The upward positions do help.

We go to sleep around 11. She wakes up twice during the night. This is a bliss. I am never tired.

She can also take long naps while we are outside. We put her in her cot and if we happen to be outside for hours, I nurse her in a fitting room. I could breastfeed her anywhere but nowadays, we have been looking for clothes on sale. You cannot blame us, we live in Barcelona after all!

Assya gets fussy before bedtime. We carry her a lot.

She also calms down when laying on her changing pad (from IKEA).

So far, her baby mobile is not a hit with Assya but Zoard is a fan…

Assya has gorgeous clothes. Let me show you some examples…

Onesie from KateQuinnOrganics.

Fox onesie from Igloindi.

Footsie from LovedBaby.

Matching outfit from Belabumbum.

Matching beanies from: Ryderl.
Matching jackets from: LittleIndians.

Outfit from Agiftedbaby.
Sunglasses from FjsPopShop.

My Baby Turned 3 Years Old

There is a lot of talking about what is “fake” and what is “real” and I personally enjoy both worlds. I like to see birthday parties with well thought out themes and gigantic balloons, at the same time, candid shots can also be beyond beautiful.

Zoard is not a fan of seeing me take pictures of him when we are in our everyday moments.  And as much as I can, I try to be respectful about this. If you look at my Instagram feed @zoardminiboy, you will see that a lot of my pictures are planned out.

For Zoard’s 3rd birthday we tried to think with a three year old’s head. Or more like Zoard’s head…

So for example, he did not have a surprise cake instead I baked his birthday cake with him because I know that he loves cooking and baking. He enjoys being part of it all.

As soon as the cake was finished, Zoard was ready to dig in… He previously, picked out his pink cake from a Disney book written in the 20s called Daddies.

Here is a real moment capture for you. Zoard did not wish to wear a party hat and he sometimes hides when he is not sure how to behave in a situation.

We made a gigantic mess with confetti that I was sure he will be over the moon about. Well, it turned out, Zoard was more in to cleaning the confetti up…

His presents were simple ones. A note book, funky tapes (Scotch tapes), a puzzle and some apple crisps. The crisps was the biggest hit. He is very nice when it comes to sharing…

Thank you for reading and hope to see you on Instagram @zoardminiboy !

Postpartum Post: I Had To Be Operated On

It is all quiet around me. Could it be that Zoard went to bed all on his own?! Assya is napping peacefully next to me and I am… I am finally telling you what had happened.

I had a fever for a day and since I have experienced before, that breastfeeding can be hard on you in the beginning, I assumed my fever was in connection with some inflammation in my right breast.

Two days later, I had so much perineal pain that walking and sitting almost made me cry. And later, walking and sitting did make me cry.

To make a long story short, I had a hematoma and it needed to be operated on. The four of us waited until midnight at the emergency unit of the hospital I gave birth at. I was able to go home for the night and this gave us some time to quickly arrange my mother-in-law to fly in.

The next day I was operated on and everything worked out well. Zoard spent three hours in the hospital waiting to see me in the company of his grandmother. Assya was being fed by her daddy from a special bottle and I was able to tell the staff of the hospital, that I am not going to any operating room, before I squeeze some milk out of myself for my daughter. Breastfeeding is beyond important to us. And I knew, that even the quickest operation would be too long for Assya. (When she is awake, she asks to be breastfed every hour…)

Judging from the sounds, I will have to change Assya’s diaper so I better speed it up.

Yesterday, I took my last antibiotics and I stopped taking Ibuprofen and Paracetamol a little less than a week ago.

I am still taking my iron tablet in the mornings on an empty stomach with a glass of orange juice.

I will take my vitamins (Femibion) for a year even though I plan on breastfeeding longer than that.

I try to use an intensive stretch mark cream before putting on my Belly Shield and my Belly Bandit. More on both here.

I only wear nursing clothes and this bra is a special nursing bra from BoobDesign. See more from them here. They just released an exciting new collection.

I would also like to give credit to Zoard who has made the lovely paintings behind me.

In the mean time, Assya had a blow out. I have to take off our bed sheet as well. I better get going. You can find me on Instagram @zoardminiboy. Thanks for reading!!!

Assya: 1 week old

Barcelona, 23rd of December, 2015

Assya was born at 41 weeks +6 days. The inducing of her birth took more than 24 hours.

I got the “chemicals” for the induction: Penicillin for Strep B; later: Oxytocin  and Epidural twice.

Yes, I was allowed to skip the Cesarean this time. The delivery was vacuum-assisted which made me upset at first but I had to change my attitude quickly (from pouting) to focusing and the team was very satisfied with my pushing skills. And I was utterly surprised by the task. I am sure it is a different experience when you do not have a vacuum buddy in the race or when you are not on epidural but I was positively surprised how easy the whole thing was. “I just have to hold my breath and push?!” I am good at holding my breath… I used to be a mermaid.

My Captain in Life

I cannot put in to words how much help I got from my husband in bringing Assya to this world and still do. Assya will have a mother and an angel guide her through life. When sometimes I am being asked: “and does your husband know how to change a diaper?!”, I always freeze for a second. “He is teaching me everything there is to know…” Seriously. You do not want to see how I do some occasional burping for Assya…

Assya is being held a lot and breastfed by demand.

She had her first check-up today and she gained almost 500 grams in a week.

She is now the same weight as she was born: 3870 gramm (8.53pounds).
Her height is now: 52,5 cm-s (20.6 inches)

I am wearing a nursing top that is also an active wear by ingridandisabel.
Assya is being snug and tight in her halosleepsack.

Thank you for reading this and I will be back with baby fashion and nursing fashion tips.

You can already see some great pictures on Instagram @zoardminiboy.

41 weeks pregnant

I am back with another update. And this is my last one because I will not reach week 42 of this pregnancy for sure. Fingers crossed that Assya will join us in pleasant conditions.

I had heart monitoring today and everything is still good. I will have to go every second day now. We have 5 more days before the hospital induces labor.

I will write a little birth plan today. It will not be too long. I would like Assya to stay with me at all times, when it is possible. I am planning on exclusively breastfeeding as I did with Zoard. And though I am not a vegetarian anymore, I am still a picky eater so I will ask for vegetarian meals at the hospital. Because I remember that it was delicious in 2013… Is this something you put in your birth plan?! I am such a pig. HAHA

I am at home with Zoard but I really wanted to post some (maybe) last pictures of my belly. I took them with a timer and Zoard joined me in a few shots but I really think he prefers to be in pictures without me. HAHA

This is our belly shot. I am 57 kg-s and Zoard is about 14-15 kg-s.

We are both wearing maternity clothes.

I was being artsy here with the negative space. And yes, I did tone my hair since my last post, at a hair salon.

Thanks for reading and please make sure to find me on Instagram. My username is @zoardminiboy

How to Dress a Winter Baby?

Zoard was born in January, in fact he will be 3 years old exactly a month from now. So if we were obsessive fans of the number 16, we would have all fingers and toes crossed for Assya to arrive today.

We are fine waiting for her and we are well prepared by now.

One question I was confused about while I was pregnant with Zoard is how to dress a baby, who makes his/her first appearance in winter time.

And now that I am experienced, I think that you need to know some facts about ideal temperature for a newborn and observe your surroundings or just trust your cultural believes if that is what suits you the most.

The safest room temperature for a newborn is between 16 degrees (Celsius) and 20.

Let us translate this: bodysuit and footed sleep suit (when shopping, you might come across the terms footie or footsieonesie or rompers).

For night time, use a sleeping bag designed for babies. I will post about my favorite brand, once Assya gets here.

Speaking of brands, I would like you to be introduced to Iglo + Indi.

Their philosophy combines playfulness and being practical.

For me, looks and the material of baby clothes is essential. I probably make a bigger fuss about this than most people.

I used to be all about Scandinavian children’s clothes but I can proudly announce that this brand is from Reykjavik so I have expanded my horizons. (Though the head designer Helga Olafsdottir studied fashion design in Denmark…)

The fabrics of these beauties are beyond exceptional and tear resistant! And let me show you what they look like with a few of my flat lays.

My husband, recently changed his deodorant because of the chemicals that were used in production, so I think this is a topic more and more parents are also interested in. The factories that make these baby clothes for Iglo + Indi provide healthy and fair conditions for everyone involved in the manufacturing. This includes the entire supply chain, chemical and biodegradability wise.

Thank you for reading!
