A Typical Afternoon of a Stay-at-Home-Mom

In my last post, I wrote about a day of ours from the time we wake up until nap time.

In this post, I will attempt to write down what usually happens AFTER nap time.

Zoard is 3.5 years old and Assya is 9 months old. We are currently in Thailand.

15:00

Assya is sleeping on me in our bed.

15:10

I put Assya back in her cot but she only stays laying down if I pat her bum so eventually, I take her out.

I nurse her and I give her some balls to play with.

SONY DSC
Imagine this for 2 minutes. Then this:

SONY DSC

Zoard would normally, sleep in a proper bed but here on Koh Samui, we take what we get.

15:30

An excavator passes by. This is quite typical. HAHA

SONY DSC

I let them both watch the excavator but the rule is, that Assya cannot go out on to the terrace.

On the side note: I totally forgot to take a picture of the excavator. Oops.

Pretend Playing starts

I am a crane called Crany.

Zoard is half excavator, half race car by the name of Brownie.

Assya is Little Crany.

We first, pretend to sleep. I have to say: “what time is it?!”
Zoard aka Brownie: “It is the time to wake up.”

Zoard starts dumping things on a floor since he has some kind of a part-time job as a dumper.

SONY DSC
I help Assya entertain herself.

15:45

SONY DSC
I start washing the dishes while I suggest to Brownie that he write me a postcard while I am away, doing some business by the stream.

16:00

I change Assya’s diaper.

I build a mini tower for Assya to knock over.

Zoard is talking like the speakers of metros in Budapest.

SONY DSC
I try to go back to doing the dishes but Assya has a nasty diaper rash and by

16:15

Assya becomes more and more fussy.

SONY DSC
I start carrying Assya and let her be naked.

She pees on the floor.

I clean it up and I reapply coconut oil on her bum.

16:30

SONY DSC
Zoard has to make a snack for himself and I. Oats and yogurt. He has it with raisins.

Zoard pretends to be tram 6.

I nurse Assya.

SONY DSC
I carry Assya in my hands.

16:50

I apply more coconut oil on her rash. (Now we know that the change in my diet caused the rash. She is being exclusively breastfed and I started eating 30-40 cherry tomatoes, every single day. Too acidy…)

SONY DSC
17:20

My husband comes home and takes Zoard swimming.

Do you have a way of not entertaining your kids as much?!

xoxo,

See you on Instagram @zoardandassya!

What It is Like to Live in a Hotel

I wrote a lot about the topic of living in a five star hotel since this is what we did, when Zoard was much younger.
If you are curious about our past, you can read about it here.

As life got more and more complicated, I started blogging less about our personal life. However, I do realize that it is super interesting how we live!

We decided not to live anymore at my husband’s work place. It makes lot of things easier to be close by but it makes separating our personal life from work almost impossible.

We still have a swimming pool we can use:

SONY DSC

A housekeeper does come by every day if you were wondering. Mostly to give us some bottled water and they sweep the floor and wash the dishes.

Tidying up is our responsibility and we are very good at it. At the end of the day. If you look during the day…

SONY DSC

And our postal address is still something you have to ask us about before you go sending us treats because we travel a lot.

SONY DSC

And if you ask me what we do all day long. Well, I play school with Zoard, I read to him a lot. You cannot imagine… And we talk a lot. He likes to talk about his books and he makes it clear which one he wishes me to do. So he either tells me to read to him or talk about it.

This is a picture that shows how we just sometimes hang around.

SONY DSC

As you can see, Zoard is not in to family pictures since he became a toddler. The irony of it is that I take pictures of him daily. And we come up with some funny stuff as topics when we are not taking pictures for shops.

How To Raise a Traveler

Traveling is really part of our life and I am embracing it more and more. Last month we stayed at five hotels in ten days and I felt I was fed up but then we got back to the island and after a few days, I was ready to talk about packing again.

This month we will be seen on three continents. We will spend five more days in Thailand, a week in Spain, a week in Hungary and ten days in the States. We will head back to Thailand once we had enough pie pops.

I really liked an approach, I never thought of,  that points out traveling teaches you an expected behavior that is useful (please read more about it on the travelsmartblog). I never thought of it this way. But it is certainly true, that our Zoard really knows how to behave at check-ins that take time, he understands the main rules on an airplane and automatically fastens his seat belt after sitting down; he understands that at times you need to take a car, a ferry, a bus, an airplane and a taxi to reach your destination. And at other times, you need to take three different airplanes to touch the ground you want to be at.

I also read that your way of dealing with the down-sides of traveling is also a lesson to learn. Fathomaway has some ground rules that I liked. I am an entertainer and I am beyond relaxed about traveling when my husband is with us. He does the packing and organizing and carries everything heavy while I chat away with Zoard.

At we3travel you can read tips about traveling with family. The article uses cute little symbols to help you understand the basics.

The reason, why I am not handing out advises is because I have already done so, toddler related here.  And baby related traveling here.

I received questions regarding Zoard’s personality and his attitude towards traveling.

He gets emotional about packing so though we might have our suitcases out a few days ahead, the real packing only takes place a day before leaving. We try to pack his toys and books the last. He does get involved in the packing to some extend but because he is a big fan of unpacking, I try to direct his attention towards checking under beds and in drawers to see if we leave anything behind.

I would not say he has a strong attachment to his stuffed rabbit but before going to the airport, he likes to hold it. He is always fine with putting the rabbit in a suitcase at the very last minute but that is the point when I make sure he can hold on to something else to feel secure. Today I gave him the case of my cell phone and I also had a rock in my pocket just in case. Later at the check-in, I gave him crackers and he was both satisfied with munching and just holding it. I guess, this is a trick good to know. Most children at this age like to hold something in their hands and if they do not have an object or a snack in their hands for some reason, it is smart to offer them something. Even a dirty tissue will do. Seriously!

I always tell Zoard the name of the hotel we are going to and if the hotel has a boring or difficult name, I just make one up. I call it maybe “the villa” or “the new hotel”. Zoard likes to know the logo of the company as well and he is also interested in knowing which company we are flying with. Did I mention that he is verbal beyond his age?! HAHA

I better wake Zoard up. We pulled the curtains in to make the room dark and I think we did too good of a job and he has been sleeping for almost three hours now instead of his usual two. We like to stick to his daily schedule no matter where we are.

It’s My Birthday and I’ll Cry if I Want to

Do you know the song “It’s My Party” from Lesley Gore? Would you like to listen to it while reading this post?!

It was my birthday and people were great about it. It is insane how many people stopped by to send me a nice message on Facebook and Instagram. It still makes me smile.

However, I was stopped by an acquaintance of mine who totally lost the point of birthdays at least in my point of view. She and her two other friends kept asking me what I got as a present from my husband. It is lame to say so but I think my husband is already a present.

SONY DSC

Maybe the question is what do we focus on as we get older? “Are we watching the right picture?!” – as we could say if we would translate a “famous” Hungarian saying. (I can just see many of my Hungarian readers nodding their heads and telling themselves there is no such saying in Hungarian… HAHA)

Anyways, my point is this:

SONY DSC

My birthday was on Sunday and we did the usual Sunday stuff: Zoard fed the sheeps and we had sushi. And I liked it very much that we did not change our family traditions.

I got a surprise and it was very interesting for me on an emotional level.

SONY DSC

Zoard got to experience being on a speed boat for the very first time. There were some pretty big waves on the sea (which I had the chance to experience) and it was amazing to hear my boys yell out from the boat: “very goooood!”

SONY DSC
It was amazing! If you have never tried wake boarding before, you should put it on your wish list.

My birthday was a bit of a day without too much camera action. I do get slightly obsessed about taking pictures so it is nice to set some limits.

I could not resist this shot because it is so Zoard…

I Have Been A Bad Bad Girl

I have always been the analytical type way before I became a psychologist. I like to break a situation into pieces when I observe something even if it involves me.

I posted a picture on Instagram that I knew was inappropriate. Why did I do it then?! I am obsessive when it comes to small goals. I dislike big challenges, I do not move mountains but I can build a small, sweet-looking hill out of sand. And this tiny goal of mine at the moment is to become a representative of a brand that is looking for mamas to advertise their tops for exercising. Are you smiling?!

So I had to take a picture of myself showing my whole body. I did this with a ten seconds timer. Ten seconds is already a lot of time when you have a toddler wondering around on concrete. I could not find a better place to put down my camera then where I put it and I had to come up with a pose that will show my body but which also allows me to stay low down. Luckily, Zoard did not fall down a steep slope but the slopes around the villa we live in at the moment are extremely steep so I did not wish to risk it by taking another shot.

OK so I got this off my chest. I did it and now that I did it, it would be silly to delete this capture until the search is over. I feel like my feed became pornographic. I can be so so brainless when I want something that is within arm reach. Well… It is another question to ask: do I really stand a chance to be picked out from a group of bodybuilding ladies?! Do not worry, I will let you know if I become famous. Immediately.

If you became curious about my pictures in Instagram, please keep focus and look at the pictures Zoard is on. Thanks!

Now tell me something just as stupid that you did for a freebie or to win something….

How To Dress Boys – Men of The Future Part 2

A little over a year ago I wrote the first part of this post. And now that Zoard is a brand representative I feel even more eager to show the parents with sons to be more brave when it comes to dressing their boys.

You can see pictures of Zoard from the first post HERE.

I would like to start by showing off a pair of leggings and beanies that were made by Wild Little Ones Apparel. I know that you will ask me about their website… Click HERE please.

SONY DSC

Unless you put your kids only in black clothes, you are already buying clothes that are blue or green or navy etc. So you already conquered your fear of colors, right?! Next step is to befriend patterns. If you are comfortable with seeing animals or cars on your son, start with that then!

You might have a strange smile on your face right now and ask the same question a friend of mine asked me. “Can boys wear leggings?” Well think about boys and earrings… For some boys, guys and men earrings are super cool so yes, leggings are very much trendy nowadays and they became unisex.

amiyra9

If you feel that you would like to experiment with leggings and beanies but you are not sure where to start then start with black.

SONY DSC

And you will see that you will reach the advanced level in just a few weeks.

romper and rocks (Large)

I picked out this picture on purpose to provoke you. Never be boring! Life is interesting and awesome why not dress your children accordingly…

I Wish I Could Read Your Mind

I am trying to figure out what is it that You would enjoy reading about. Of course, you can say I should write about whatever comes to my mind or about that one topic that is sitting on the shelf of my heart.

Well, my shelf has an amazon standing on it. If you are lost in transition, I am in amazon mode, I am a female warrior at the moment taking every day as it comes. We came back from Bangkok after many weeks of climbing the mountains of air pollution and found that we cannot stay at our hotel because it is absolutely full.

And if you blush a little in the cheeks and suggest I write instead about the thoughts that come to my mind, I might just shock you that I am fantasizing about a pair of BOOTS. Specifically, what kind would I get IF we would go to Hungary for Christmas.

Could you recommend me some nice boots please?!

SONY DSC

I just remembered another interesting topic. Not related to any kind of boots. On Instagram I read under a belfie (selfie of your belly) that unless you have Brad Pitt-abs you should not post selfies all the time. It made me think. And my first question was: ” how about I post anything that I feel like in my feed any time I like?!” HAHA

If this made you curious about my Instagram feed, please follow me @krokovayeszter…..

Activities with my Toddler

You might have wanted to read about activities with Your toddler but all I can do is share with you what I do with Zoard and hope that I inspire you in one way or another. Thanks for jumping on board!

As all toddlers, Zoard loves to help out. When I was 18 and I was living with my grandma, I did not understand what I know now: quality does not matter! When someone is ill, old or very, very young it does not matter at all how WELL they help us with various chores.

SONY DSC
Zoard loves to stir daddy’s coffee. He can also use some coffee machines and he can say decaf latte (for) mammy.

In Thailand it is not always easy to find products made for children that are safe. If you are thinking arts-and-crafts you would need to find a shopping center that sells stuff from Western countries and it will cost a lot. So we haven’t tried finger painting yet but we did sell the silverware and bought some markers.

SONY DSC

I am really excited about this so may I brag with one more picture? His…

SONY DSC
I ain’t know psychologist but he is talented! Wait! I am a psychologist!! HAHA

Here are my ideas when it comes to playing with Play-doh and tell me yours…
Zoard is younger than the recommended age for Play-doh but he does not put things in his mouth so we are super lucky in this sense. As this being said, he is still pretty young so he needs guiding. I give him bottle caps and pencils to make shapes. I always start off by making him a base as I call it. This is actually how I started him off on Duplo as well. By giving him a base to build on.

SONY DSC

After he gets tired of making shapes, I make him mini balls and he can either put them back in to the holes we previously made or we start making a so called ball tower. A tower made of balls. I really have to encourage him to press the little balls hard when he places them on top of each other.

SONY DSC  SONY DSC

Building towers are tricky. Usually I have to be very quick to make a foundation that will be strong enough for Zoard’s working hands. He has been playing with Duplo for five months now so he is very good with it but nevertheless, he needs to focus when we are working on a masterpiece and sometimes I give him parallel projects just to make sure he does not lose interest.

SONY DSC

Oh and I do talk a lot. He needs full attention when doing something grand as such. Wink wink.

I am not sure when make believe playing starts, simply because I haven’t read in to it yet and I forgot what I studied in child’s development… (oh just found an interesting article on intersubjectivity 😛 )But Zoard is starting to give water to the Duplo figures and he appreciates it if I play with his camel and dog for example. The story was that Dog had to find shoes for Camel…

SONY DSC

I will finish this blog post before Zoard wakes up from his nap and if you were wondering if we ever go outside then the answer is for sure! It is essential, no matter where you live. Bangkok is not ideal, living in a hotel on a mountain can be challenging but it is sort of the right a child has to be outdoors, you know…

In Search of The Perfect Stuffed Animal

We all need a project. I sure do! We have been in Bangkok for a month now. I go to shopping centers with Zoard nearly everyday. Oh I am not the only foreigner dressed up against the air conditioning at the Lego table.

Most of these children’s departments have a little area with a table where you can play with some Lego. You can also try out the plastic house that is placed close to the plastic cars and motorbikes.  Basically, you can play with anything as long as you do not cause any damage. And another big advantage is that you are not breathing in the air pollution.

Therefor, I am surrounded by all these toys and we already bought Zoard some Duplo, Play-doh and washable Crayola markers. We are supposed to be the parents who suggest their child to play with the toilet paper roll! Anyways, it got me thinking… Zoard started a new habit of holding my hands while falling asleep so maybe he needs a stuffed animal. Yes, one and not more.

I have started searching for the perfect “teddy bear” and I need Your help.

I would like something cuddly and unique. A stuffed animal that is also nice to take pictures of. Zoard is now the brand representative of five brands…

So please find a way to contact me if you have a suggestion. You can comment with a link perhaps or message me on Instagram.

The Bet You Do Not Want To Loose

I lost a bet and as a result I have to do things that are outside my comfort zone for a whole month! I have already done three weeks of it so 1 more week to go. Here they are:

1. I cannot put on make-up.
2. I cannot use hair conditioning.
3. I cannot use an epilator. When was the last time you had a hairy armpit?!
4. I cannot wear any of my Bonds underwear (the 15 pair I have)and I can only wear 3 pairs from Top Shop.
5. I can only wear 2 pair of pants, no skirts…
6. I have to eat the skin of apples.
7. I cannot eat my over night oats. (I am very rigid when it comes to breakfast… HAHA)
8. I cannot eat homemade dumplings. (This might seem like a white men’s problem… and it is!)
9. I have to let Zoard play with my phone every day.
10. I cannot floss.
11. I cannot use a deodorant.
12. I cannot take a family picture on the 16th of the month. (Zoard turned 20 months on the 16th – it is my “thing” to take pics then.)
13. I cannot exercise. (Even restorative yoga is a form of exercise in this sense.)

Which of these are the worse for you? What comes to your mind when you think about stepping out of Your comfort zone…

You can find me on Instagram: krokovayeszter is my username.
